The Austrian black metal outfit ELLENDE was founded in the year 2011 by L.G. as a solo project and soon turned into a live band by recruiting several session members in 2012. With their latest album “Lebensnehmer”, the band proved to be one of the most aspiring (post) black metal bands of today. The band members themselves state that their name comes from a Middle High German adjective originating from the West Germanic “alja-landja”, which can be translated as „being out of the country“. In the sense of „exiled“, the translation took on a negative connotation over time, reflected nowadays in modern German word “elend”, i.e. „miserable“.
